NEW PROJECTS

The new Port of SAFI mobilizes a global investment envelope of 4 billion DH. Its location is about 15 km south of the city, 6 km from the installations of the Cherifian Phosphate Office Group and 2 km north of the future thermal power plant of the National Office of Water and Electricity.
This port, which is part of the national strategy to create new maritime openings, will have to fill the gaps and needs of Morocco in terms of maritime traffic, strengthen its positioning and accompany its economic development internationally. It will above all enable the city of potters, Safi and a whole Marrakesh/Safi region to develop and contribute amply to the creation of wealth and the development of its rich and varied potential.

The area of the site is approximately 100 hectares for the land-based facilities and approximately 15 hectares for the marine facilities which include water supply and cooling water discharge. The Project site is located in the commune of Ouled Salmane with the Power Plant facilities extending approximately 5 km along the coast (flow channel and conveyor belt to the port).

A preliminary study has been carried out and confirms the economic profitability of a high-speed line “Casablanca-Marrakesh” initially, then to Agadir via Essaouira. The national railway office specifies moreover, that the traditional line between Casablanca and Marrakesh is saturated. It is therefore necessary to double it, by building a high-speed line and doubling the sections of the SETTAT – Marrakesh line.
