SAFI PROVINCE

The maritime district has a coastline stretching for 150 km characterized by the richness and diversification of fishery products including different species; Fishing is the main resource and the driving force for the socio-economic development of Safi province; Eminent port equipped with a new generation hall with electronic auction with international hygiene standards to ensure and preserve the quality of fishery products, as well as organize the flow of products and people. There are currently 33 units of treatment and processing of fishing of which 20 companies are specialized in the canning, that is to say 45% of the national canning factories realizing a turnover of more than one billion DH. A maritime population reaching 8000 active sailors constituting 21% of the national workforce as well as jobs related to the activity amounting to 1000 employees in the industries of processing and conservation of seafood products, 100 fish merchants and some 350 indirect jobs consisting of manpower distributed on shipyards and fish markets.

ESSAOUIRA Province

It has a main fishing port and eight artisanal fishing sites; an inshore fishing fleet of about 179 vessels and an artisanal fishing fleet of 743 boats; the maritime fishing sector plays an undeniable socio-economic role. It provides about 4,941 jobs including 3,364 on board and 1,577 on land and has generated about 110 million DH in 2012 PROVINCE OF ESSAOUIRA Fishing production is quite diversified, it concerns cephalopods (5.8MDH), pelagic fish 22.9MDH and white fish 17.8 MDH. Inshore fishing contributes 74% of the total production in the maritime district of Essaouira. Artisanal fishing covers about 25% while the rest of the production (1%) is mainly devoted to coastal activities.
