Agriculture

The Agriculture sector is one of the pillars of the regional economy, employing more than 53% of the region’s active population.
The Marrakesh-Safi region is the first region at the national level in terms of usable agricultural area (UAA) with 22% of the national UAA. The region represents a very large pole of production of fruits and vegetables in the country, as the first national producer of apricots with 57% of national production and second producer of olives contributing to 20% of national production. The region also has a rich and diversified potential in local products, with 20% of the national argan grove and 30% of the national area of cactus, as well as 45% of national production in capers.
Moreover, regional agriculture has important assets and potential, in particular :
a significant potential in irrigable land which is of the order of 274,206 ha, i.e. nearly 20% of the national UAA;
A very important cereal production ranging from 12 to 20% of the national production,
Modern and diversified agro-industrial infrastructures ;
A rich experience in professional organization, with more than 300 cooperatives and 200 associations;
Its proximity to major consumer centers, port infrastructures and industrial zones;
A qualified and highly competitive agricultural workforce (288,765 farmers).

Useful Agricultural Area (UAA): 1,648,156 Ha, 20% of which is irrigated, i.e. 22% of the national UAA;
Cattle: 590,000 head, sheep: 3,472,000 head and goats: 1,161,000 head;
Number of farms: 288 815.
